Mark & Avoid Manipulating Demons: A Prophetic Call to Discernment
How these spirits operate subtly and often camouflage themselves under a religious or prophetic guise.
In these critical times, discerning spirits and guarding your heart is not optional… it’s necessary. The Body of Christ must recognize and confront the influence of manipulating demons that seek to derail purpose, distort prophetic truth, and emotionally dominate believers. We must discern, mark, and avoid these demons!
Let’s break down some of the most dangerous manipulating spirits and how to stay free.
Spirits of Witchcraft: Controlling Through Intimidation
“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry…” — 1 Samuel 15:23
Witchcraft is rooted in rebellion. It doesn’t always come in the form of spells or rituals… it can show up as control, intimidation, or domination. When a person tries to force their will on you, throw tantrums, or threaten you if you don’t comply, they are manipulating you.
When Jezebel released witchcraft against Elijah, it came as a message of threat and fear. She weaponized words, knowing he was a seer, and released a word curse. Words are powerful.
“Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah… ‘May the gods judge me severely if by this time tomorrow I do not take your life as you did theirs!’ Elijah was afraid, so he fled for his life…” — 1 Kings 19:2-3
Witchcraft comes to wear you down, dominate your thoughts, and push you to flee your God-ordained position. It plants fear and emotional exhaustion. You can feel the swirl of these demons as they try to zap your strength and vitality.
The Power of Divination: Gaining Access Illegally
Divination is spiritual access through illegitimate gates. Operating in the power of God means staying rooted in the Word of God. We must not deviate into strange spiritual pursuits in the name of power or gifting.
Judge teaching and prophetic ministry by the Word. If it doesn’t glorify Jesus, point to repentance, or lead to truth… it’s not of God.
Sadly, some prophets have been misled into divination, tapping into soul realms rather than the Spirit. They become soul readers instead of consecrated voices. This is a manifestation of divination.
True prophetic words always glorify Jesus.
They call us deeper into obedience, purity, and purpose… not into idolatry of our own dreams.
The Dangers of Prophetic Manipulation
Prophetic manipulation uses spiritual gifts or insight for personal gain and control. This is never the heart of God.
I’ve seen prophets and leaders use their gifting to bend the will of those they lead. They give ominous words and release fear if people don’t obey them. They become prophetic bullies.
True prophetic ministry is birthed in intimacy and tempered by wisdom. Mature prophets serve… they don’t control. This doesn’t mean prophets won’t give hard or corrective words, it means their words are rooted in God’s heart, not their own ambition.
Manipulating Spirits to Watch Out For
These demonic assignments often work together, creating a network of deception:
Jezebel Spirit – Exerts control, rebels against godly authority, and operates in counterfeit prophetic ministry.
Religious Spirit – Traps people in dead works, performance, and condemnation without the life of God.
Orphan Spirit – Twists identity and creates cycles of rejection, abandonment, and isolation.
Vagabond Spirit – Keeps you rootless, drifting without purpose or alignment.
“No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” — 2 Corinthians 11:14
“See to it that no one misleads you.” — Matthew 24:24
The enemy is a master of camouflage, using spiritual language to mask manipulative intent.
Signs of Emotional Manipulation
Not all manipulation is mystical; some of it shows up in how people communicate and relate. Watch for:
Refusal to communicate clearly and honestly
Obsessive control over the narrative
Outbursts used to distract or guilt-trip
Playing the victim to avoid accountability
Releasing a smokescreen to avoid confrontation
Manipulative demons thrive where truth is avoided, and emotions are weaponized.
Tools to Stay Free
Walking in freedom takes intentionality. Here are tools to stay clear, clean, and spiritually healthy:
Be a student of the Word—judge every encounter and teaching by Scripture.
Value authentic relationships—lean into healthy conflict resolution and truth-telling.
Know your identity—truth sets you free.
Pursue emotional healing—Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18).
Build accountability with mature believers who speak truth in love.
Establish healthy boundaries—protect your peace and purpose.
Final Thoughts
We are in a season where the false is rising right alongside the true. But God is raising up discerning sons and daughters who walk in truth, love, and spiritual authority.
Mark and avoid manipulating demons.
Guard your heart.
Value the truth.

I just came out of this situation. pray for my healing. I thought this pastor was my spiritual mother and covering. In reality I was being controlled, manipulated, and used for my giftings. Also not growing in them. 1yr of stagnation due to this. I also understood I was being an enabler due to my people pleasing, insecurities, abandonment and rejections trauma. It's wild how people use your trauma to help grow their ministry. pray for my church hurt and inner healing. I don't want to be weak in those areas anymore.
Thank you Apostle. After reading this, it gave me so much peace. These people also dysregulate the nervous system, trigger past trauma already healed. On time word. Glory be to God!!
